Steve Shears MSc, BSc, Dip PST, HG Dip (Distinction),Cert CC Relate. MBACP(Accred)

My career spans 22 years and includes work with social services, the NHS and not for profit organisations such as relate, the Red Cross and of late, Headway - the brain injury association www.headway.org.uk . I have a keen interest in what makes for effective therapy and in the application of talking therapies for people living with brain injury. As a result I continually update my knowledge in the fields of psychotherapy and the neurosciences and I have been fortunate to be able to have training inputs in both the UK and the US. My methods of working are eclectic and include approaches drawn from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Ericksonian Hypnotherapy and the Human Givens.

From the point of view of the client it seems that people like to feel that their therapist can understand their world and work with them in a way that makes sense to them. It is my my task to understand how the client thinks and feels about their experience of life and work with them in a way that honours their understanding of how change comes about. FAQ’S

Do I have to talk about my childhood?

No you can talk about what is relevant to you now. If that includes your past then that

is fine. I will not make the assumption that you cannot move on until you resolve

issues from the past.

Will I have to come for ages?

Most difficulties that people bring are resolved within a fairly short timescale because

this therapy focuses on what works. Even complicated, longstanding problems can be

vastly improved after a few sessions. This makes therapy very affordable even for

those on a tight budget.

Does it have to be weekly?

Not at all. Sessions are timed to fit in with your needs, for some people this might be

weekly and others may benefit from a longer gap. You can negotiate when you need

the next session at the end of each one you have.

Who decides when we’ve finished?

You do. I do not ask people to commit to a set number of sessions at the outset. I

will not encourage you to enter into a prolonged ‘ending process’. If you say that you

have done what you need to do for now I will trust your judgement and not go on a

search for unresolved issues.

How much does it cost?

For an hours’consultation it costs £40.
